A challenging Network only award for undertaking a personal development, peace or environment project that has sustainable outcomes.
The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is the only Scouting award available to all members of WOSM between the ages of 18 and 25, with the aim of encouraging members to develop and support society, locally, nationally or globally. It enables members to develop a range of skills from project management to planning an international trip and many of these skills can benefit them both inside and out of Scouting. The experience will show Network members that they can implement change and work to improve the lives or environment of other people.
To gain this award members must first attend a SOWA Discovery course followed by 80 hours of SOWA voluntary service, either in the UK or abroad, based on one or more of the three themes: Development, Environment and Peace. Members will be supported throughout their voluntary service by a mentor and this must be completed by the member’s 25th birthday.
The next Discovery course to be run by Kent Scouts will be from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th January 2020, 7pm – 3pm at Hopehill Campsite, Meopham DA13 0QJ.
Attendance is required for the full weekend to complete the Discovery course. The course costs £30 and this will include all training and resources, accommodation and food.
If you would like to attend, please complete the application form below – and pay the £30 at the time of booking.
The closing date for applications is 12th January 2020 (or earlier if all 24 places are allocated). Any queries should be sent to the David Norris (SOWA Mentor) – firstname.lastname@example.org
